March Program - David Owen Hastings
March 29, 2023 9:30 am and 6:30 pm  David is a graphic designer, gallery artist, and modern quilter from the Pacific Northwest (west of Seattle on the Olympic Peninsula). He creates richly-layered modern quilts often using his own textiles that he’s made through dyeing andpainting.
We will have two different programs this month.
First will be “Indigo Dyeing in Japan” where David will take you virtually to an indigo dyeing workshop in the countryside near Mt Fuji. Here we’ll learn about two kinds of processes: katazome (paste resist dyeing using stencils) and shibori (bound or stitch resist dyeing), and how he incorporates these into his quilts. The second program will be “Minimal Design, Maximum Impact,” where David will discuss the modern quilting movement where simple, spare design combined with thoughtful quilting make an outstanding combination. Join us for one or both of these entertaining and enlightening programs.
